The Template Process

Almost every job will need a template. Templates are made from 1/4 inch thick by 4 inch wide smooth
wooden strips. These wooden strips are assembled on your counter top, vanity, desktop, etc. to
show proper overhangs, centerlines of sinks, unevenness of any walls that the stone may sit against.
In making these templates you will be able to get an idea of what the finished product will look like.
A well calculated template with all variables included will give you a clean, well-fitted granite or marble
job. The average time it takes us to do a template for a kitchen counter top is generally 2-3 hours.
Bathroom vanities generally can be done within 1 hour. Exact times will depend greatly on the size
and complexity of your job.

The following should be done before we come to template your job:

If you are having new base cabinets installed it is imperative that all these bases are 100% screwed,
glued or bolted in place. Once a template is done, cabinets can not be moved around. The entire
idea of the template is for us to get an accurate gauge of the basic position, this can not be
established if they are moved after we have templated.

If you are having your old counter top surfaces replaced, all old counter tops must be removed. We
need to be able to see all tops of base cabinets for strength, flatness and accuracy of template.

If you would like to have your old counter top surfaces removed, please let us know in advance as
there will be an added charge for this service.
Most old counter tops can be re-installed on a temporary basis after the template process is
complete, we do this so you can continue using your sink and counter top surface during the
fabrication process.

We need to have at hand during templating the following: Any sink, faucets, soap dispensers or any
other device that will be part of the finished project. If anything is missing we must be informed prior
to producing templates to establish how critical the item is for your template process
